Microsoft Zune - Portable Entertainment Device

What is Zune?

Zune is Microsoft's official entry into the music and entertainment business.  Possibly before Christmas 2006, a slew of hardware and software products will set to launch and will be Microsoft's attempt to unseat or at least take away market share from the popular and ubiquitous iPod. Microsoft believes they can differentiate themselves from Apple by introducing the concept of a 'community'.  The claim is that Zune will be an integrated entertainment device that combines music, video, social networking (maybe something similar to MySpace) in away that brings people together.  It'll be interesting to see how this will unfold.

What Microsoft has said so far is that consumers will be able to purchase Zune-branded video players and possibly even a portable video game device. Yet to be confirmed are WiFi-enabled devices which Microsoft reportedly plans to use that for things like social networking, music purchasing on-the-go, and even an Xbox Live type service.

Initial reports indicate that Microsoft will initially release in November a Zune media player which should have a 30GB drive, black, brown, and cotton color options, FM tuner, 13 available accessories and a screen that is 50% larger than the iPod.

More confirmed details to follow...
